But officials continue to urge motorists to be cautious on city streets and sidewalks that may remain icy for several hours.

Precipitation has changed to snow in several Ottawa neighbourhoods Thursday morning.
“Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.” Environment and Climate Change Canada said in an earlier release.
A total of 10.8 mm of precipitation fell at the Ottawa airport Wednesday, the 25th anniversary of the day that freezing rain started to fall on the region, beginning the Great Ice Storm of 1998.
For Thursday there’s a 40 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers after freezing drizzle and a few flurries wind down in the early afternoon.

It was -3 C as of 8 a.m. at the Ottawa airport with a forecast high of 1 C. Expect wind of up to 15 km/h.
There’s a 60 per cent chance of flurries overnight with fog patches developing on the way to a low of -4 C.
Friday’s forecast is cloudy again with a 60 per cent chance of flurries, a high of 1 C and a wind chill of -5 in the morning.
Friday night is expected to dip to -2 C with a 40 per cent chance of flurries.
“Normals” for this time of year are highs of -6 C and lows of -15 C.
