A 911 caller reported that Lola had broken free from a rope in the backyard of a residence near the river before running onto the river ice at about 4:50 p.m. Water rescue technicians launched a “fortuna” watercraft and had Lola safely out of the water by 5:14 before carrying back home, where she was wrapped in towels and dried.

The fire service credited area residents for not venturing onto the ice themselves to attempt their own rescue.
