The call came in from Ottawa police around 4:30 p.m. reporting the hikers were unable to find their way out of the forest, the fire service said.
After firefighters made their way through “extremely difficult terrain” using snowmobiles, the three people were located where they were sheltering in place at a communal cabin, around 8 p.m. They were safely out of the forest just before 10:30 p.m.
The hikers were able to start a fire at the cabin to keep warm while waiting to be located, according to the fire service. There were no reported injuries.
