Paramedics took two men to hospital after a platform shifted at a construction site on Southvale Crescent off Russell Road in the city’s east end on Tuesday afternoon, the Ottawa Paramedic Service said.
Their injuries were not life-threatening, the service said. Both men were in stable condition.
Ottawa Fire Services said its crews were first on the scene at 1:50 p.m. after the swing stage collapsed at the high-rise building.
Firefighters assessed and treated injured workers on the ground and helped safely lower another worker, who was hanging from their safety rope, down to a balcony, the fire department said.
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development was notified of the incident, a spokesperson wrote in an email.
The spokesperson added that two ministry inspectors and an engineer visited the work site and that seven orders had been issued to the employer, Bassi Construction LP.
The MLITSD investigation was ongoing, the late-afternoon statement said.
