Firefighters from Station 46 in Rideau-Goulbourn responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the large building near Willowlea Road was on fire just before 2 a.m. Thursday, Ottawa Fire Services said.

Callers also reported that they could see things “blowing up.”

Crews called in a working fire even before they arrived because they could see the flames from a distance.

They launched a defensive attack given the spreading flames and fuel sources inside the building while the two diesel tanks outside also needed “constant cooling.”

With no hydrants nearby, firefighters shuttled water to the scene with tanker trucks.

The fire was under control at 3:14 a.m.

A fire investigator was dispatched to determine the cause.
